Pandora Ann Phillips' life is just normal-crazy
Her mom's a psychic, her dad's mom is a snob, her mom's parental units are "too down to earth" and her best friends are newlyweds. Okay, so her best friends being newlyweds isn't really abnormal, but living with them in a cramped two-bedroom apartment definitely is. Sex, sex, sex is totally on their minds. Actually it's not only on their minds, but it's on the kitchen table, couch, on top of the washer...well, you get the picture.
Being a celibate (not by choice, mind you) full-time college student, and an almost full-time barista, Pandora can't afford to lose anymore sleep. So, she seeks out a new place to lay her head. Enter three "drool worthy" male models that are looking for a fourth roommate and they want her...and won't take no for an answer.
Hilarity ensues as Pandora's life turns completely upside down, and she begins to wonder if it will ever be the same again! (Goodreads)
This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. There were elements I loved and found fun, like Dora's family (who aren't really as crazy as she makes out--seriously, visit my family's house during the holidays!), and her best friend who's a total lifesaver, and her married friends who were hilarious. But there were a few things that I was less than drawn in by--it took me a long time to be able to tell the roommates apart and they all blended together for a good chunk of the book (a good looking blend, but still!). And I never felt like we got to know any of them really well, which was frustrating. Also, I kind of hated how the book ended. The two main twists at the end were just a little over the top for me. Honestly, I found myself mostly drawn to the amazing apartment they lived in :) That probably says more about me than I should admit. Anyhow, this book has some seriously awesome potential, and was fun fluff, but I think it could have taken things so much further.
Have I mentioned that I hate posting reviews of books I didn't totally love? But, I'd rather be honest than not, so there you have it!
I appreciate an honest review. It's interesting because now I'm so curious about those two end twists that you hated, that I'm tempted to read it to find out what I think!
ReplyDeleteRead it and let me know!! :)
DeleteI love an honest review, but I know they are hard to give when they aren't "sparkly" reviews. But it actually helps the author for readers to know what their book is about. If the reader goes into the book thinking it's going to give them "A" and they get "B" they aren't going to be happy and it will end in bad reviews.
ReplyDeleteAt least that's what I tell myself. :)

I think that's a perfect argument! This one went really far toward a great review, just kind of fell short, ya know? :)
DeleteThe celibacy angle seems like a good twist ... depending on how it was handled :-)
ReplyDeletelol, it's a great line in the blurb...and not so well done in the book, imho :/
DeleteAn honest review is the best kind! By far the most helpful for readers. :)
ReplyDeleteAs a reader, that's what I think--as an author, they're still not as fun, lol!
DeleteSounds good. The review and the story twist.

Lots of twists if you like that! :)
DeleteI agree about giving an honest review. It's the most important thing you can do for both the reader and the author.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover and the premise!
If you read it, let me know what you think!
DeleteThanks for sharing your honest review. Her family sounds interesting and I am curious about the apartment. :)
ReplyDeleteThe apartment was killer--totally lust-worthy imho :)
DeleteHonest reviews are great for the readers though! I'm curious about the apartment :)

The apartment was seriously amazing. As in, I would kill for it! :)
Deleteoh goodness! I meant to read it upon release. I started, then got distracted editing A Need, and never went back. I'm on a reading spree right now before continuing with Rise, so I hope to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally curious what you think!! Let me know :)
DeleteI love sharing the 4 and 5 books, rather than the 3's and less. I don't like too many characters in the mix, especially if they're vague.
ReplyDeleteI like the format of your review posts. I just read too slowly to manage it :)
DeleteAn honest review, even when not glowing, is constructive and useful.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! :)
