Also, today, I'm supposed to be starting in on my next release, Travelers, and tackling my arch-
For some reason blogger and images are not getting along today. Does this even show up? Grr! |
I'd like to say I have an excuse, too. I mean, I didn't go to school in English until Junior High. My written language skills were pretty much non-existent in English when I did. I've managed to get by since then, with a whole lot of work on my part. But yeah, still, passive voice doesn't compute :)
So, that's my confession for this Monday. I'll be neck deep fixing things later on, haha! Do you have a grammar nemesis? Please tell me I'm not the only one!
My issue is with homonyms, ugh, and I know the difference between the words! It's just that sometimes my brain is overworked and one slips through and despite edits and betas, it manages to sit there till my agent sees it! luckily she thinks it's funny and doesn't judge me but I get so embarrassed!
ReplyDeleteMy grammar course for my English major had a class that really focused on passive voice. We had to write without it or we'd fail. I'm thankful for that class now.
ReplyDeleteHaha...so true! I used to get highest marks in science subjects, English used to be just passing marks and I ended up working with books!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there in the same boat w/you on the passive thing! Hand me an oar? ;)
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on the passive. I think most of us have problems with it.
ReplyDeleteHomonyms tend to bedevil me from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI did well in school, but never fully absorbed grammar lessons. I'd forget the terms. Also, I made many mistakes in my early writing. Google, blogs, and other resources helped me a lot. I also put the checkmark for passive voice in Word. I use it when editing.
ReplyDeletePassive voice is tricky for me too! I have learned many of the grammar rules while writing that I didn't internalize the first time around, but passive voice still trips me up. :) I saw Medeia's comment, so I will have to look into the checkmark in Word.
ReplyDeleteUh-oh. I know what you mean. It's not always easy to spot. I used to make so many mistakes my writer's group probably hated to read my work. But I've come a long way. I definitely think practice makes perfect. It's the editing process where we really get to challenge our writing and take it to a whole new level.
