Paying it forward giveaway!
First off, a big Hello to all my new followers! (I'd say Howdy, but I only live in Montana...) Nice to meet you all! I hope you'll stick around and join in the conversation :)
So, I've been thinking about how lucky I am lately to have such awesome people who have helped me with my writing over the years. There are too many to list, but I appreciate them all and count many as dear friends (even if I've never met you and generally our emails are filled with the angst that comes from being a newly published author, lol!). Anyhow, I thought I'd do something to pay it forward a bit--hopefully you'll be interested!
Anyhow, here's what I'm thinking: leave a comment below to be entered in a giveaway for either one of my wrap bracelets (I'll let you pick the colors, but there's an example to the right), or for a first chapter critique--or both, because that's cool too. If you feel like spreading the word, via twitter or facebook, just let me know how you did so in the comments and I'll drop your name in a second time. I'll pick a winner Friday February 9th.
Here's what I want you to answer in your comment (other than what you want to be entered for, and a way to get ahold of you): what do you think you're strengths are?
(This may sound a little random, but I think we sometimes forget to think about what we're actually good at and get too caught up in what we need/want/have to be better at. It could do us all a little good to remember that there has to be something you're good at--even if it is Tetris-ing everything into the dishwasher like no one else!)

That is super duper nice of you! It always feels easier to talk about my weakness. Strength, huh? Maybe I could say that I have a fierce determination. That's a good thing, right? Anyway I'd love a 1st chapter critique :)
ReplyDeleteFunny how it is easier to talk about weaknesses! Thanks for entering!
DeleteCute idea! I'm super grateful to have found a writer friend in you. Let's see, I'm strong with plot, knowing when to cut or add scenes, seeing the thread of the story and how it pulls the reader through. It's the details I have to go always go back in and add (oh, wait, we're focusing on strengths...scratch that last comment then.)
ReplyDeleteYou can put me in for a bracelet...and I'll go share this on FB.
Thanks for posting on fb :) You definitely have a talent with plot!!
DeleteWhat a cute idea--I'd love either of those things! Hmmm, what am I good at? I think I know my characters really well:-) I guess it's kinda hard not to when they live inside your head and won't shut up, lol. Thanks for visiting me at Gwen's blog today!!
ReplyDeletelol, that is definitely true! Sometimes I wish mine would be a little clearer on the character and less about telling me to just get my butt in a chair and write :)

ReplyDeleteOoh my gf would love one of your bracelets.
My strength in writing is to maintain an accessible voice even when discussing complex or abstruse topics.
Cheers,
Uttley
That is quite a talent!!
DeleteI would love a bracelet.
ReplyDeleteMy strengths are being patient and helping when I can.
Thanks for the chance to win!

That is an awesome strength!
DeleteI would love the bracelet. I would say my strength is being a good listener. Thanks for the giveaway. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteSuch an important strength!
DeleteMeradeth--I love the question at the end of this post. I realized that one of my greatest strengths is that I take care--yup, I'm a caretaker personality, which can be co-dependent--but nowadays I take care in healthy ways and of what truly matters: my family, friends, pets, my passions and first of all myself (put your oxygen mask on first, then assist others).
ReplyDeleteI shared your post on facebook and I would love both the bracelet and the critique if I win! Thanks!
Love this response! That oxygen-mask for yourself first is a great metafore! Thanks for posting too!
DeleteHi Meradeth, great question. I think my asset is helping others, knowing when to cut words or scenes. Even switching paragraphs for a better flow. lol. Now all I need is to do that with mine.
ReplyDeleteUm, can I get a little of that help? :) Sounds like an excellent talent!
DeleteOh, how fun!!! My strengths? Phew. Man. I think my ability to keep going---to have hope that all my dreams will come true. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome strength--one we all can use!
DeleteI'd love a braclet. My strengths are I am stubborn, to stubborn to give up, I keep moving forward even if it's one small step at a time.

That is definitely an awesome strength!
DeletePut me down for first chapter critique :)
ReplyDeleteHumor seems to be my strongest point. It comes pretty naturally, I guess!
I must admit, I'm jealous--I totally don't have this and seriously wish I did!
DeleteI just shared this on Twitter as well as FB (links copied below). My strong point? In writing I will admit to being really good at dialogue. My skills IRL include making mountains out of molehills, lolz!

DeleteHope it is not too late to enter! I'd love a 1st chapter critique. I guess my main strength would be seeing the positive in any situation or trying to. Life's too short to mope around!
