(This is the part where I go, wait, what am I supposed to say?)
Um, yeah.
The basics: I'm a professor at the University of Montana where I teach in the anthropology department. I specialize in ancient DNA but I have no intention of cloning dinosaurs any time soon. Or Neanderthals for that matter. I work in a lab a lot and do my best to hide my insanity from my students.
I'm from California originally and am not so sure about this whole snowy winter thing here in Montana. I miss sunshine :)
Writing: my first novel, Colors Like Memories came out last year, which was awesome. Book 2, The Chemistry of Fate (more of a companion book than a sequel) is due out in April. Book 3 is under massive surgery and probably needs another round of anesthesia. And I hope to start querying another sci-fi book at some point in the near future. Writing is probably the only thing that keeps me sane!
If you're curious, I can be found on twitter and facebook too.
I'm looking forward to checking out everyone else's blogs and getting to meet you all!
Unfortunately, today's binge deals with skeletal biology (oddly, not as fun as it might sound! :). |
I like the idea of a book binge. Although I'm sure one on skeletal biology would not be on my binge title list. Congratulations on three books. I'm still working on one.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, a book binge on skeletal biology is less than fun, haha! Good luck with your writing!
DeleteNice to see fellow writers/scientists out there. I'll have to peek in from time-to-time to see what you're up to! My specialty is mammal paleontology/stable isotopes. I hope to get a fiction book published soon. Queries in preparation!
ReplyDeleteHi! It's always great to meet other scientist writers! If you ever want to do a science Sunday, let me know. (Or write one of my lectures on stable isotopes... :)
DeleteHi Meradeth, As a California transplant I too, often miss the shunshine during these long, used-to-be freezing winters here in Wisconsin. Not so bad this year, though. I feel my resistance to global warming um...melting?
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you and feel free to stop by my little nut-tree for a cuppa sometime.
lol, I completely understand about not minding too terribly about some warmer temps (so long as I don't think about it too much, then it freaks me out!). Stopping by your blog now!
DeleteHi Meradeth! I used to work in a lab while getting my degree. Nothing as high tech as what you're doing, but I do miss it from time to time. But congratulations on getting book 2 out, April is just around the corner! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! What kind of lab did you used to work in?
DeleteYou have my dream job and as beautiful as Montana is, I really can't love that cold stuff.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too!
DeleteI hear ya about winter... I feel like I'm living a Johnny Cash song where he says "I ain't seen sunshine, since I don't know when..."
ReplyDeleteGood for you on your publishing success! So jealous! ;) Seriously, it has been great to re-meetcha!
Great to re-meet you too! Wish I could send some sunshine your way :)
DeleteHuh, I didn't know professors were supposed to hide their insanity from the students. Mine kinda flaunted it.
ReplyDeletelol, there should be some added emphasis on the "try" because I'm pretty sure my students all see through to the real crazy me :)
DeleteHi Meradeth. Congratulations on publishing your novel. You sound like a very busy lady.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the term "book binge"... I did a lot of book bingeing during my high school years... when youth and energy allowed for it...
Great to meet you via the blogfest.
I wish I had more time (and energy!) for a good book binge nowadays :) It actually sounds kind of like heaven!
DeleteNice to meet you...again! :)
ReplyDeletelol, thanks! :)
DeleteI go on book binges all the time.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Montana. We don't get much snow on my side of Tennessee, so I'd like to experience it at least once. Then I'll go back to the balmy 68 degree winter :D
Any time you want to trade, just let me know!
DeleteOh, dear. I've been binging on books for as long as I can remember. I guess that makes me a fathead.
ReplyDeleteNice to meetcha. Now, I'll have to order your book... I'm ready to go on another book bender
Count me in as your newest groupie.
Hi! It's nice to meet you! Hope you enjoy your book binge :)
DeleteHI, Meredith,

It definitely is pretty here during the summer, but I'm ready for Spring right about now :) That is some crazy weather for Chicago!
Deleteok, my first thoughts on the occupation...ah, it's ross from "friends"!! :D but my gosh, what a noble job!! newest follower, hi!!
ReplyDeletelol, yeah, I do have a Ross-like job (just I study people, not dinosaurs, but same kind of principles). Nice to meet you!
DeleteYou don't want to clone dinosaurs? Really?
ReplyDeleteIt was great getting to know more about you, Meradeth.
