The Liebster Blog Award translates to “the beloved” or “the dearest.” The award is given as a way to celebrate smaller blogs. (Only blogs with under 200 followers can be awarded.) Before you accept the award, there are a certain set of tasks you must complete. The first is to reveal 11 facts about you, answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you and then create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate to answer.
11 facts about me? Ummm, let's see if I can find something interesting:
This is why summer needs to get here soon! :) |
- I have a fish named Watson. He ate Crick.
- There's some serious nerdiness in how we name all of our pets.
- I grow succulents in my kitchen.
- I teach kids about how evolution really works.
- I love all things pumpkin.
- I'm currently training for a half marathon with my mom and sister.
- I don't sit still well.
- I'm very crafty--as in, like to make random stuff I find on pinterest.
- I have no idea how to sew, which I hope to remedy this summer.
- I love, love, love summer.
- I'm praying that I have a job after the end of this semester. Because I work for a university that puts sports over education. Which pisses me off more than I can possibly express, though imagining smoke-from-the-ears-fuming might get close :)
Faith gave me a few questions to answer, so here goes:
1. What do you like best about your personality?
~Hmm. Good question. How about my tenacity. It takes a LOT for me to give up. Which sometimes works against me, but not always :)
2. What's the best piece of advice you ever received?
~That you have to put yourself first sometimes. I'm not very good at this.
3. What does it take for a book to stay with you long after reading it?
~A really amazing idea/concept/world. I love good characters and lots of emotion, but I find myself thinking about worlds and ideas more.
4. If you could tell an author that you admire one thing, what would it be?
~I would love to tell Madeline L'Engle just how much her books make me happy.
5. Who is one person who always makes you happy?
~This isn't one person, but my online writing buddies always make me so happy. They make this business so much more fun.
6. What was the best birthday you ever had?
~I am going to have to say one that I don't remember very well, but I think I was 4 and my parents had a ton of people over, and we took turns riding on our pet donkey (yes, you read that right), and he was always a grouch and hated that, but was still so sweet. I just have memories of little snatches of sunlight and ice cream and a piƱata, but it was awesome :)
7. What drives you to share your thoughts about books on social media?
~Reciprocity. I mean, I love sharing good books, but I do it because I always appreciate it when people share mine.
8. What's the best thing an author ever said to you?
~I'm torn on how to answer this: an author in a book? Or one of my author friends? Ummm :)
9. What do you consider the ideal length for a book in terms of the number of pages?
~About 300 pages. Long enough to get lost in it, not so long that it has the potential to get slow in the middle. Or hurts as much when you drop it on yourself.
10. What fictional character do you most resemble?
~Meg from A Wrinkle in Time.
11. If you could give the person reading this an uplifting message, what would it be?
~Life's short, take the time to do what makes you happy!
Okay, and I'm going to nominate a few people who have probably been tagged before, but oh well! Same questions as those above :)
As a newbie on your blog, I loved reading these and getting to know you a little better! And while I love sports (and I do), I am in total agreement with you. I REALLY hope you still have a job!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! And I like sports, I do, just get so frustrated with sports taking precedence over education... :)
DeleteThat birthday party sounds awesome. I'm finding that I prefer a certain length in books. Blogger buddies are great to have around. :) It was fun reading all this.
ReplyDeleteBlogging buddies are certainly awesome!! :)
DeleteI feel your pain, I work for a University also. We just recently started a Football program. With the influx of money you think we would be doing better, but because it is a state school they have been contracting out positions. Maybe you could get another fish and name it Gene. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, ugh, I'm sorry to hear that about your University. It just seems so counter intuitive!
DeleteMeradeth, thanks to much for taking the time to answer my questions! Choosing you for the Liebster Award was a no brainer because you are one of my "dearest" blog buddies :-) *HUGS*
ReplyDeleteSame to you!!! Thanks so much for the nod :)
DeleteAw, I loved learning all this about you! I have to agree 300 pages is perfect--odd from someone who sticks to writing around 200, lol!
ReplyDeletelol, same here! I top out at 200, but always wish I wrote something longer :)
DeleteCongrats on your award!
ReplyDeleteI love anything pumpkin too!! Part of why October is my fave month. :)
Gotta love pumpkin! :)
Delete*hugs* Love you too, Meradeth! Now I totally need to introduce you to pumpkin icecream from Fars ice cream. BEST. ICE CREAM. EVER. =)
ReplyDeletePumpkin ice cream bars?? Yes please!!
DeleteCongratulations on your award! Loved reading all about you!
ReplyDeleteThanks! So many random things :)
DeleteI take it Watson's a bit of a cannibal, from Crick's fate?
ReplyDeleteThat, and kind of a jerk :/
DeleteI loved how you described your best birthday party, so evocative. Also, sunshine, rides on a donkey, and a pinata? That's definitely a scene straight out of MG book, lol!
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty epic party, from what I can remember at least. My mom was the queen of parties, I swear. Though I know you totally have the decoration department down--loved your pics!!!
DeleteA Wrinkle in Time was my favorite book in 5th grade (I loved the whole series). I totally connected with Meg! :) I actually made a two hour puppet show with a friend based on the book (my teacher thought it was too long, which I couldn't understand at the time). ;)
ReplyDeleteSo fun to learn more about you. Thanks for the nominations! You are so sweet.
You have been so super supportive that I can't even begin to thank you!! And I would have totally loved the puppet show :)
DeleteGlad you have found online writing buddies who make you happy. A good support system can make all the difference! Congrats on your award.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely makes all the difference! :)
DeleteI too LOVE pumpkin, and all things Autumn (summer is great too, but I shy away from the heat). Maybe it's the colors of fall that I love so much, though I wouldn't say orange is my favorite color. I think it just sets the mood right for all the holidays and family get-togethers that follow.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Liebster award and what a wonderful opportunity to learn more about you! :)
I adore the fall colors! I wish they lasted longer. It's been so fun to move someplace where we actually see them. Though, I could deal with less of this winter weather when it's nearly April... :)
DeleteThat's a wonderful philosophy Meradeth.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great uplifting post! Thanks! I'm pulling for you on the teaching. The world has gone mad when those of us who love to teach have to continually fight for our jobs.
ReplyDeleteRight? Gah, it makes me utterly nuts at times. What is the world coming to??
DeleteYou are certainly standing in front of magnificent landscape-did you say where it is? Looks like Alaska... and YAY for your upcoming release and for online writing buddies!!!!!
ReplyDeleteActually, that's nearby where I live--Glacier National Park :) I can't wait for it to open again this year. It's a great place to go visit!
DeleteJust seeing this now! Thanks, Meradeth.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to email you...just been a little swamped on this end of things :)
DeleteYou just made me realized I missed the 11 facts part of my post. lol I was so stumped by some of Faith's questions (They were tough!) that the 11 facts slipped my mind. Oops. ;)
ReplyDeletelol! I've done that same thing before :)
