Working out a social media schedule
-Finish the 4th Sary book. (Woot!)
-Revise that book. (Not so woot.)
-Revise another book I wrote ages ago but want to work on again. (Maybe woot?)
-Work on this shiny new idea that I really think will be epic if I can get some time to get it started. (Possibly, very likely, a cool woot!)
So, I'm attempting to work out a schedule for how to handle my social media load. Because lately its
gotten a little overwhelming, and with limited time (because I still have research to do this summer...even if I don't get paid *grumble grumble*), there may be some changes. First off, I'll only be blogging twice a week. I'll still post stuff for friends and all, but I'll be cutting back.
I'll probably respond to comments less here on my blog, too. Because, well, who goes back and reads my responses? Does anyone? I really don't do so very often at all, and I'd rather go to your blog and see what you have to say there. (But I'm curious, do you read my responses?)
Twitter and facebook are other beasts. I sometimes feel like I'm really fumbling and don't know how best to go about them in the first place. I love interacting with people, but coming up with posts that allow for that? Not my forte. Soooo, who knows what I'll be doing. I love Triberr for sharing tweets about cool blog posts, and then Hootsuite for scheduling posts, too. Facebook's scheduler has also been really helpful.
Question: what do you find most interesting on twitter and facebook? What do you most like seeing?
Anyhow, this is my plan right now. I'm not totally sure how it's going to work out in the end, but hopefully it allows for a little more time to, you know, actually get some work done on my projects :) If you have any hints on stuff that's worked well, I'm all ears!
Oh, and check out this awesome trailer for Kelly Hashway!!
And seeing as how I gave one of these away over on facebook yesterday, I'll do another here. Just leave a comment to enter!

twitter's one that I'll make less use of. Facebook, well, it's easy to lose track of time with that, so I have to watch myself over there.
ReplyDeleteKelly's book trailer looks good!
WAY too easy to lose track of time!! :)
DeleteSometimes I read your responses! Usually if I've asked a question, I'll come back to see your answers. If the comment I left was on a book review/author spotlight, then I don't, as my comments are usually of the congratulatory or 'I like that aspect' sort, and I know there's not a lot that can be said back to that. =) I can understand needing to find a better balance of social media, it's something I always want to do to, as I'm always so disappointed in myself when I've only got in 30 mins of writing b/c I was cruising Blogger and Twitter. =(
ReplyDeleteI think your blog is one of the few I click back to so I can read your response :) A lot of others, I hate to admit it, I just get too busy. Why doesn't blogger allow responses to be emailed? I always wonder that. Anyhow, it's amazing how much time I can while away online. WAY too easy to do! :)
DeleteSounds like a great plan! I'm supposed to be editing this summer too... I always click the follow/notify me button to see if the blog host responds to a comment - sometimes it leads to a conversation!
ReplyDeleteAs for Twitter, I love it for all the research type people I follow - historians and artists and the like. I keep learning new things!
The follow/notify button kind of confounds me: how do I just get replies and not everything? Maybe I'm just doing it wrong :)
DeleteI check fb more than twitter. I feel like I just don't understand twitter well enough. I need to use it better and my attention wanders when I try to keep up with comments. So many people love it and I think I am just doing it wrong. :) Good luck balancing everything!
ReplyDeleteOh- and I should have mentioned. I do sometimes read the comments back that people write on their blogs back to me, but it depends on what we were talking about (or if I asked a question). I like to see that people are reading comments, but I think if someone wrote one comment back to their readers that could work too and save a lot of time. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Individual responses to everything are fun, and I wish I had time, but I just don't. I definitely read and love every comment, but I guess I'd rather comment back on their blog than here. Who knows if it'll work :)
