- I haven't had the energy or interest in opening a WIP file in several weeks. I know this is because of school starting and a variety of other reasons, but dang, the thought of delving into another book is just too exhausting to deal with. Anyone else get that way?
- Fall is here. The leaves are already turning. Please insert loud sigh here :) I do love pumpkin flavoring, but the impending snow is less than welcome.
- Chipotle opened in Missoula. Finally! This place will eventually feel like civilization!
- This past weekend I had the pleasure of joining in on a panel on world building with several other authors at the Montana Book Festival. We had a bunch of teens and adults around and basically created a fabulous book universe and plot. Lots of fun, lots of laughs! The festival was spectacular all the way around, really, and I loved going to the sessions!
A few of the teens from the panel, along with authors Janet Fox, Kent Davis, and Jess E. Owen! |
I was trying to think of a good place to eat later this week and you mentioned Chipotle...that's it! I'm there. I do go through phases where there's so much going on, I dread opening my WIP...but I've found if I force myself to, often I'm glad I did.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that way about writing sometimes. Usually when I've just finished something. I find I need a break from time-to-time to recharge. Then the itch comes back and I get back into writing.
ReplyDeleteThe panel you were on sounds awesome! I love talking to teens about reading or writing. They bring a certain exuberance to everything they touch... well, most of them do. :) My son is a teen and I tell him he was switched at birth because he Dislikes reading. UGH, the pain of hearing that. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes, I get that way about writing... in fact, I'm still writing the same paragraph... yes, paragraph... from the Nano thing in... July? Was it July or August. Anyway, doesn't matter. The point is, we all feel like that at some point. I'm seriously wondering if I've forgotten how to write. *sigh*
Pull out your journal, or whatever you have, and just write in that. People have different ideas of writer's block and how to cure it, but the one thing I've seen consistently is that we need to write everyday. So, don't start a new WIP if you aren't feeling it... but try to write something. Hey, you can always write up a bunch of quizzes for your students... they'd love that!
What a fun photo!!! Yeah, I started my fall, part time teaching gig again and it does take away from writing time. Though I do love my students. I just have to get enough rest, exercise, and boundary off my time for working on my novel in progress.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way right now. I finally finished my series (editing and all...). I keep trying to get excited about my next project, but I guess my brain needs a break. I'm going to do scrap-booking, reading, and sewing for a few months to mix it up. Hopefully new books get me inspired.
ReplyDeleteFarmers let their fields go fallow for a season. And if dirt needs a rest, how much more do our minds, right?
ReplyDeleteFall isn't here yet, though we've had a coolness in the morning air we haven't had in a while. I like the fall, but I'm not fond of winter. What fun to "play" at world building with a bunch of teens!
ReplyDeleteThe fall colours have started to show themselves here.
ReplyDeleteWinter's a good thing!
Oh, the festival sounds like so much fun. I used to feel the same way about fall when I lived in the Midwest. I could never get to excited about fall because it meant cold weather was coming.
ReplyDeleteHang in there. I predict before too much longer your muse is going to be whispering in your ear and tapping on your shoulder.
Just pretend I typed too excited instead of to excited, please:)
ReplyDeleteThe festival sounds excellent. Hope your panel inspired you as much as it did the teens. Weather's been back to front in Scotland, we're having an Indian summer after the real one was a wash-out!
ReplyDeleteI love Chipotle.
ReplyDeleteI'm overwhelmed with the first month of school. Writing is hard to squeeze into my schedule.
So there w/writing on my own WIP too. And I was just super excited about it like a month ago. Oh where does the love go? ;) Glad you had fun at the panel, I'd love to get to do one of those someday.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your first two things. I am exhausted with the start of school. I need to work on my WIP, but I have no time and when I do have snippets of time I am too tired. I am hoping to get some chores done today and hopefully will have a little time to work on it- if I am not too tired. I do enjoy fall, but I would be fine if it only ended up snowing once this winter (not going to happen though). I do love Chipotle though! :)
