Wait, hold up a second, how on earth did it get to be mid-march already? Aren't we at least due a little spring weather? (*looks out window longingly at the dull gray skies*) Well, if no Spring, how about a little hop? The incomparable Mark Koopmans is running this one, and you should definitely go check out his blog!
I thought I'd reminisce a little (really, promise, just a little) about my family's traditions for the holiday. Mainly because I'd love to hear what yours are :)
St. Patrick's Day at my house growing up meant everything was green. My mom dyed the milk, whatever we were having for breakfast, and pretty much anything she could. She also made little green footprints across windows and generally made some kind of ruckus to make us think some mischievous leprechauns invaded our house. There were plenty of gold coins and other treats, too. Funny how I remember the green stuff the most :) Oh, and of course, corned beef and potatoes. We didn't do much cabbage (though that would have gone well with the green-theme!). Good memories!
These are TAME in comparison. Also, you know when you google ugly socks some really random stuff comes up! |
How about you? What are your traditions for the day?
Love the socks. What a great idea and I bet you do have doozy of a collection of socks.
ReplyDeleteI love corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes, and have it frequently through out the year.
I do have quite a collection of socks--they're pretty spectacularly awful actually :)
DeleteWhat a fun tradition. Even though we have Irish heritage, we never really did anything traditional, except maybe toss candy around the house, and we had to go find it all. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like lots of fun still!!
DeleteCorned beef, cabbage and potatoes all the way...every March 17th without fail! Ugly socks sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm honestly thinking of bumping up the corned beef--sounds tasty right about now!
DeleteThat's great that your mom made it out like leprechauns came to visit...sounds like you all had some fun traditions :)
ReplyDeleteWe certainly did :)
DeleteWell awesome that your Ma was into the oul' traditions, but those socks... good grief, woman :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, as always and Happy St. PaDDy's Day :)
LOL, yes, the socks were something else. Fun, though!
DeleteSounds like a good holiday to be in your house. I like the socks thing.

DeleteWhat a great memory and a rockin' mom! I've never heard of the sock tradition but I like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Heather
I think the sock thing was our random invention. Made for good times!
Deletesocks sound a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteIt was very fun in a totally random sort of way!
DeleteYour traditions sound like such fun! I remember having green bagels in high school, but my family didn't go all out like yours did! I think the ugly sock exchange is awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was definitely good times!
DeleteSt. Patrick's Day isn't celebrated in this part of the world, so it's always interesting to read about it from people who do :-) It sounds like it was fun in your house! And I think those socks are great!
ReplyDeleteI get together with friends on St. Pats, have a good time.
ReplyDeleteSpring will be here... someday.
