So, some of you may have seen my swooning this summer over Deamon over on twitter. I'll admit, I was totally sucked into this series and read all of the books over about a week's time. (Thank heavens for summer break and being able to do awesome things like that!) So, yeah, definitely loved these books. Origin released almost a month ago and I really had been looking forward to it. It was a fun read, but I did feel that Armentrout's biggest strength--which I feel is her un-put-down-able pacing--was lacking in this one. I could set my kindle aside if need be and didn't feel like I was totally immersed in the world. Though, certain events that took place in Vegas had me totally freaking out (and can I just say, I'm not a fan of Vegas, so a little destruction there kind of made me happy...yeah, that's wrong, I know, but still). I'm still impatiently waiting for the last book, but I hope the pacing picks back up.
Overall, I have referred to this series when recommending it as Twilight with a female MC that has a backbone and aliens instead of vampires. Really, there are a TON of corollaries. As it, it started blowing my mind once I got to really studying it. But, to be fair, Deamon is amazing, and I much prefer his and Katie's relationship, as I think it's a helluva lot healthier.
Anyhow, I could spend ages talking about these books. So, sing it out in the comments: read these? Liked them? Want to
Meradeth, you have me cracking up. To hell with Vegas then, huh? :-)
ReplyDeleteI love series that you can swept up in, and J. Lynn is one of my favorites in the contemporary world. I'll definitely have to check out her paranormal stuff.
Hah! Yeah, kinda have no love for Vegas. Can't help it! :)
DeleteI read Obsidian a while ago and Loved it. I still have to catch up with the series. As for it being compared with Twilight, I really don't see it. These are completely different stories--with a deliciously hot and arrogant male lead (why am I attracted to his hotness and arrogance..LOL) So yeah, totally different.
ReplyDeletelol, trust me, I totally know what you mean about the arrogance/hotness. Not what I'd ever go for in real, like, but enjoy it in a book :)
DeleteI read the first two, but am behind with the rest of them. I love Deamon, so I need to get back to the series soon. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should!! Let me know what you think of them :)
DeleteI haven't read any of Jennifer's work yet. I should remedy that, as I've heard nothing but good stuff about her series. And aliens are fun! Well, in fiction anyway... ;)
ReplyDeleteI might want to meet one in person...if they are like Deamon. The ones with probes can hang out elsewhere :)
DeleteI have heard of Jennifer, but I have yet to read any of her work.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it's something you'd particularly dig, but maybe I'm wrong :)
DeleteI haven't read any of these books yet- but they have been on my list. This sounds like a good series. I enjoyed Twilight so I would like to look for the similarities. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Definitely let me know what you think!
DeleteSome of these titles ring a bell. I'd love to read this series. I might have one or two books already.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy them!
DeleteNo, I haven't read any of these, but I didn't read much in the way of science fiction for a lot of years. I didn't think I liked the genre anymore, but whattaya know? It seems that I DO like some of it, after all, so I'll have to check these out.
ReplyDeleteIf you do, let me know what you think! :)
DeleteI love this series! I haven't read Origin, but I have heard that it's not the best of the bunch. I find that a lot of Armentrout's series are alike to other books. Her Half-blood series gets a lot of hate as it's quite identical to Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
ReplyDelete~Tilly @ Hardcore Heroines
I definitely don't hate on it for being similar, but yeah, totally can't help seeing the similarities :)
DeleteI SOOOOOO need to read this series!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, you do!! :)
