Anyhow, yeah, I don't have a guest post, but seeing as how I'm attempting to find the perfect gift for a slew of family members (just to give you an idea, we have a dozen nieces and nephews--just on my husband's side who we try to get a Christmas gift for...um, yeah, that's a challenge and a half!), I started thinking about some of the favorite gifts I've given over the years. There's something that's so fun about finding that *perfect* something that totally warms the heart of the receiver.
Some of my favorites have actually been handmade. Last year I attempted to do some home-made gifts, which was really a lot of fun, and definitely made me feel more connected to the gifts I gave. Here are a few of them:
This year I'm attempting a few more (which thankfully my family never reads my blog so I can show them off here):
It's so easy to forget the spirit of the season with trying to shop and travel and deal with the other stresses (like finals... :). But finding a gift that really speaks to your thoughts, feelings, and expresses your love for that person can be a great experience for both of you. And, hey, that's what these posts are all about!
So, what's your favorite gift you've ever given?
Anyone care to join me here? :) |
I am craft challenged, but I enjoy the gifts my kids make for me every year. As far as my favorite gift I've given it has to be my first christmas with my wife I saved up enough money in secret to buy her a 3 tier diamond necklace.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a gift! Hmm, may have to send a hint to the hubby :)
DeleteOh, those are great! I especially love the necklaces with the keys. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the best gift I've ever given was to my husband. I got our local theater to do a midnight showing of his favorite movie, Night of the Living Dead, on his birthday. :) I love picking out gifts for people. :)
Wow, that's AMAZING!! Totally cool gift :)
DeleteLove this, Meradeth. And, oh, my goodness, the parent of the adult student -- uffda! My favorite gifts have been the ones that make the faces of the grandkids light up -- and some have been books! :)
ReplyDeleteRIGHT?!? I was shocked she called me. Gah! lol! And I definitely love that light-up expression from the perfect gift--it's amazing!
DeleteLove your post and your gifts:) I totally agree with you,I love to look for the perfect gift for everyone:) As Margo,my favorite gifts have been the ones that light up faces:)
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely not easy, but that expression is perfection for the holidays! (And other time, too!)
DeleteMeradeth, you are so artistically talented! Love it! I know I'd rather receive a gift that someone put so much time and effort into creating. It means so much more.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Congrats on surviving finals week! Now go out and have some fun :-)
I wish some of my family members thought the same thing about my hand-made gifts, but there are times when I just don't care any more! :)
DeleteWow, these are pretty! :) Love the necklaces with the keys and wings..oh I think I love them all!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks!! :)
DeleteI assume the one call went along the lines of "How dare you fail my Timmy!!!!!"
ReplyDelete"Your Timmy, ma'am, is twenty three, and showed up drunk to class seven times..."
LOL!!! Not quite that bad, but that has happened!
DeleteYour handmade gifts are beautiful! The bracelet you made for someone this year looks like it could sell for a lot of money! You are so talented! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI am not very crafty, but I made an ornament for my husband the first year we were married. It came out pretty good (of course, it dropped off our tree this year- but it was nice while it lasted).
I can't believe parents call about their college children's grades. Wow! I am glad you only got one call!
I'm so sorry your ornament broke--that sucks! And as for my stuff, I'm not that talented, just find a lot of easy stuff on Pinterest!
DeleteI really like the necklaces! As I think homemade gifts are special, I try to make a lot myself. Which means food baskets filled with granola, chutney, cookies, truffles, pesto- you name it! It's a lot of work but also so much fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why I wish I lived close to you!! :)
DeleteI wish I were more crafty. I like to create things, but I'm not into gathering all the materials.
ReplyDeleteThese items are lovely.
Getting all the materials together is totally the job of JoAnn's, lol! :) Otherwise I'd never do anything!
DeleteI can't think of something specific, but I really like when gifts have meaning to both the giver and receiver. :)
