I make lists every single day. Thank heavens for Google Tasks, because they help me out a ton. And often I also end up with scraps of paper with lists on them scattered around. Few things make me happier than to cross one of those lists off as complete :) But, that's not the only kind of lists I make (just as my students--I have lists of terms for them to study regularly!). For the hop, I thought I'd list out a few things I have down on my long-term to-do, the biggies I hope to accomplish in the next 5-10 years (my Bucket List, if I may, at least in short form). This seems like the perfect excuse to think about this kind of thing anyhow, and I might as well post it to keep myself accountable :)
In no particular order:
- Visit Africa. I've come close to getting to this continent, but have yet to set foot there. I'd love to visit some of the awesome early human sites that I talk about in my courses!
- Make tenure. I can't apply for this for a couple of more years, but the work is already beginning with that as the end goal. No rest for the weary!
- Get an agent for my books. I've managed it before, but would love to have someone help represent my work.
- Write a book that makes it to a best-seller list. I'm not terribly picky which one. I can dream, right? ;)
- Travel more, especially out of the country. Ties in nicely with #1, and my wanderlust is insatiable.
- Make more friends. I'm naturally very shy, so moving to Montana was really hard on me and it's taken me years to feel like I have a group of friends. I'd really like to find more people, too.
- Be a better sister/daughter. Moving far from my family has made this a little more difficult than I'd like, and it's something I want to work on.
I know there are many more, but these are my top ones for the moment, and things I hope to work on overall as the months roll on. What are some of your bigger goals?
What a great list! Stopping by to say hi from The Listing Hop!!!
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great bucket list. High-quality goals. I'd be a little afraid to see what would end up on mine...probably stuff like "rewatch all my favorite TV shows!"
ReplyDeleteGreat list. My bucket list changes all the time.

Nice list. I especially like on #4 that you're not picky about which list! It made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, especially #1 and #6. Stopping by from the hop! New follower.

This is all doable. It's good to have attainable dreams.

Tossing It Out
Thanks for listing with me, Meradeth! Yours is a BIG list for having only seven items. I'm an introvert too, and though I've lived in the same place for over 30 years, I have many acquaintances but I can count the number of friends I have on one hand. I don't think that's a bad thing.
ReplyDelete#'s 3, 4, and 5 are on my list as well. #'s 6 and 7 are great great too. Making more friends is wonderful and being a better sister/daughter is something we all should do.
ReplyDeleteI like your list. I want to travel outside the country more too. My daughter was in Morocco a last year and it was stressful. There's so much going on in Africa.
ReplyDeleteVery nice list. I work in academia and one thing I strongly recommend on tenure is to put together a couple mentors all set on helping you navigate it--politics, publishing and funding are all so much harder on your own. I wish you luck!
ReplyDeleteA worthy list, indeed!! I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and throwing up prayers that ALL your listed items happen!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your list! I just signed up for NaNoWriMo, so one of my short term goals is to make progress on my next YA novel.

Africa is a place I'd love to see for myself someday.
ReplyDeleteOne of my "big" goals is simply finishing my novel.
ReplyDeleteI too would love to visit Africa someday!
More friends is an honorable choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the blog hop!
Lists are important! =) I hope you make all of yours- and more!
ReplyDeleteI love lists too, especially marking the items done one at a time. I have notebooks of them. I use them as diary entries too - I can look back and see what I was doing that day. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you reach all your goals!
I made it to my local bestseller list. Your independent bookstore may publish one in the paper--if they do, just direct all your autographed copy orders there on release day and you may see that dream come true!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic list! I hope you achieve everything on there.
ReplyDeleteHi there Meradeth. Great list. Mine is simply travel and I see you have a couple of travel related. Michelle Wallace posted some interesting facts about South Africa you might be interested in.May you reach your dreams!
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals! I love that you included both personal and professional goals. I struggle with the social stuff, too.
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals. Good luck on the African Voyage. I recently wrote a novel set in Stone Age Africa (Called Juma's Rain, due Nov. 15th on Amazon) and I have a goddaughter from World Vision in Kenia, so I'd love to go there too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome list! I am not participating in the hop due to time, but loving checking out everyone's lists. I hope you get to achieve the things on your list. It always helps me to spell things out because then I start making progress on the things I want to do. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful goals. I'd like to travel more and have my books translated and made into movies. I'd also like a different and fancier living situation.
ReplyDeleteAwesome goals! When you say "early human sites", I'm going to assume South Africa and that means you'd better have "coffee with Misha" on your list somewhere too. ;-P
ReplyDeleteMost of my big goals right now are writing/job related. There's also the general "grow into a better person", which will continue my whole life.

Nice list. I have many of the same goals. There's just so much I want to do. I wish you the best in all your endeavors and hope you find that balance between life, work, distance, and family. Family is so important.
