How do you survive the internship from hell?
Don't fall in love.
Ivy thought being a reporter-in-training at the Independent Gazettewould be her dream summer job. Little did she know, interviewing Eric, a landscaper with a heart of gold, would derail her plans. It turns out Ivy's boss, Lauren, has been eying his chiseled physique for quite some time.
But at twenty-four, Eric already has a tragic past, one that he is still reeling from. Even though his ordeal turned him into some sort of local celebrity, it's been a while since he's shared his bed with anyone. When he comes to Ivy's rescue out of the blue, it's not long before the two of them start seeing each other behind Lauren's back. When they get caught, Ivy's journey toward a college degree is jeopardized and her relationship with Eric is severely put to the test.Career versus love? In the end, a shocking turn of events provides Ivy with a revelation she never saw coming. (Goodreads)
So, in case you haven't noticed, I'm kind of in love with Faith's books. I *heart* them! And TMN was no exception. It completely made me think of a mix of The Devil Wears Prada (with the crazy witch of a boss) and The Notebook (with the amazing guy who has this awesome house built/fixed up for the woman he loves). And wow, Eric, gah, what a heart-rending story! Definitely loved him and all that he was willing to do for Ivy. The other thing that I love about Faith's work is that the characters are so real, so flawed, and so lovable. She has the perfect knack for creating someone with words who just begs to be adored, despite all of the things that happened to them. Honestly, I could totally see Ivy walking into any of my classes, and wouldn't have been surprised to have Eric help me out buying plants at the local nursery. Love that! Overall, a fun and sweet read, and I can't wait for the next book!
Have you read any of Faith's books?
Great plot! Career vs love--ouch--does she really have to choose one over the other? I guess I'd have to read to find out.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to see! :)
DeleteAnd rightly so. This sounds like an awesome read and I'm begging the scientists locked my basement to finish their time-stopper, now! I need more reading time!
ReplyDeleteIf you figure out how to make that time-stopper, definitely let me know!!!
DeleteFaith creates really great guys. I fall for all of them. lol
ReplyDeleteOh I hear ya!! :)
DeleteI really love flawed characters. It's what makes the Story better. I have Faith's book. I should be getting to them soon, I want to get to read them like tomorrow. :( I will though. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy them! :)
DeleteGreat review--I enjoyed this book as well, and I really can't wait for the next one and for the conclusion to the Heartbeat series!
ReplyDeleteOh, me too! Totally can't wait :)
DeleteDevil Wears Prada meets the Notebook? Now that's a nice mix! I'm glad you've found a great author.
ReplyDeleteIt was an awesome mix :)
DeleteA terrific review, Meradeth!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteDoes Eric have a brother?
ReplyDeleteDIBS!!! :)
DeleteSounds good! Sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteYes, I read Faith's book "Heartbeat". ( I think that was the title, and I'm too lazy to go into the other room to check.) I absolutely loved her writing, the characters and the story, but I wasn't a fan of the ending. I'll trust she wouldn't do that to me in another book, though...
Don't worry, she doesn't :) Well, not in this series, lol!
DeleteLoved the blurb and review. Great cover, plot sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteAll the best.

ReplyDeleteI love becoming a fan of someone and reading many of their books in a row or within the same time period.
Me too! I love a good author book binge :)
DeleteI have not read any of Faith's books- yet. I do have a couple of them on my TBR list because I have heard such great things about them. I love the name Ivy and am definitely curious to read a cross between The Notebook and The Devil Wears Prada! Great review!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Ivy such a great name? Hope you get to check out the books soon :)
DeleteI've seen this cover before! I'm so intrigued by it every single time :D
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one, I swear! :)
