I have an awesome treat for you all today! Leandra Wallace, who is a total sweetheart and has a great blog (which I highly recommend checking out!) has shared a wonderful story of when she received a helping hand. Please give her a warm welcome!
Back when I was a tender eighteen years old, I worked as a waitress at Crackerbarrel. It was winter, very cold, and I had to be in to work at 5:30(ugh!) to start getting ready for the breakfast shift. It had just snowed, and before going to bed, my grandpa warned me that come morning, there'd probably be black ice and to go slow and be careful. And I said, "Sure, Grandpa."
So next morning, I'm flying up the road. As I approach a four-way stop I put on my brakes and realize...Grandpa was right. Black ice. I slide off the road. I wasn't off very far and I was completely okay. But with the snow and ice combined, the only thing reverse was doing was spraying snow everywhere while my wheels turned
uselessly. As I'm sitting there, contemplating having to walk back down the road to go wake up my grandpa, a truck rolls up to the four way.
uselessly. As I'm sitting there, contemplating having to walk back down the road to go wake up my grandpa, a truck rolls up to the four way.
It stops and two guys in hunting gear jump out. They run up to the back of my car, holler for me to put it in neutral and press lightly on the gas. In two shakes of a deer tail, they had me pushed back up on the road. Then they run back to their truck and drive off. They were my real life Sary in camo. Thanks to them I didn't have to walk in the cold, get my poor grandpa out of bed, or even be late to work.
Isn't this a great story? And totally makes me look forward to winter, lol! :) (Don't forget--if you have a story to share, I'm always looking for future Friday posts!)
Before we go, I also want to give a shout-out about the awesome cover for THE PROPHESY by Erin Albert! Check it:
Growing up on a small farm in the kingdom of Vanguard, seventeen-year-old Layla Givens lives a deceptively tranquil existence. But her carefully constructed life quickly falls apart when she’s abducted by a religious zealot who proclaims her The Fulfillment of an ancient peace prophecy and whisks her away to marry her greatest enemy.
Wilhelm, Prince of the Ethereals, is reluctant to meet his new bride. He's grown up believing Vanguards are evil, an enemy to fight and fear...not love. Can he set aside his prejudices and work alongside Layla to bring lasting peace after centuries of war?
Nash, a loner who has never fit in, carries a huge secret, one big enough to destroy both kingdoms. When he accidently meets Layla, he’s no longer content to live in the shadows, but he must resist his growing attraction—for her safety and for the longevity of the two kingdoms.
When Nash's secret is revealed, a firestorm sweeps through both realms, with Layla at the center. Now she must choose between duty and desire while the fate of two nations hangs in the balance.
Erin Albert is an author, editor, and fitness trainer. Since she picked up Morris the Moose Goes to School at age four, she has been infatuated with the written word. She went on to work as a grammar and writing tutor in college and is still teased by her family and friends for being a member of the "Grammar Police." In her free time, Erin enjoys acting, running, kickboxing, and, of course, reading and writing.

DeleteGuys in camo coming to your rescue? Now that's the kind of Sary I like! Leandra, a similar thing happened to my car in the snow once but I had the mundane task of calling Triple A. It made me smile to know that these guys didn't just drive on by, instead they took the time to help you out. That's just awesome :-)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Awesome cover, Erin! Congrats, girl :-)
P.P.S. Meradeth, I'm officially addicted to 'Sary in the Real World' stories. Keep'em coming!

DeleteI loved Leandra's story! What awesome good samaritans. It's wonderful to hear good news for a change after all the horrible shootings and stuff on TV. Someone should do a Feel Good blog-hop with stories of kindness and ordinary heroes.
ReplyDeleteWishing Erin good fortune with her book! :-)
That is an awesome idea!! *makes note for next book launch* I may have to steal that!
DeleteThanks everyone! And thanks to Meradeth for posting my story(w/pics!). And lemme just say that I don't miss Crackerbarrel at all, lol! And when it snows, I'm one of those people going like 5 miles an hour. I know, I know.
ReplyDeletelol, so am I, Leandra! I hate the snow, and especially hate driving in it. Which is exactly why I live in Montana, of course :)
