Three angels – Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human – are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.
Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong. The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her? (Goodreads)
I've seen this series all over and finally decided to pick up the first one and give it a go. And honestly, it just wasn't for me. While I liked some aspects of it, especially the fact that these were not nephilim or fallen angels, giving this book a much lighter aspect, it kind of frustrated me in parts. There were some basic timeline issues, and I had a really hard time connecting with Bethany--mainly because she made a whole heck of a lot of dumb choices that made me kind of want to go "But you're an Angel--what are you doing??" LOL! Okay, really, not trying to be harsh here. There were interesting aspects, and I particularly enjoyed Gabriel and Ivy both--they were perfectly executed, I felt. Overall, just wasn't my personal cup of tea.
Have you read this series? Thoughts? Do the next books get better?
I have not read it, but, like you, have heard a ton about it. Who doesn't like a good angel story?
ReplyDeletelol, apparently me this time :) It's a nice one, just not my top pick of all the awesome angel stories out there!
DeleteI read Halo while working on my angel novel ADORNED. My story is completely different. If you want a story dealing with good angels/forbidden love, I wish you would check out my book. I'd like to change your attitude about angels. ADORNED comes out Nov. 4 on Amazon, B&N and Kobo.
DeleteI love angel books, but I haven't read this one. Sometimes you just don't connect with a book, and that's okay, Meradeth.
ReplyDeleteExactly! :)
DeleteI haven't seen these before. The cover is pretty. :) But it doesn't sound like my type of book, either.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like something I'd love, but just didn't do it for me. Oh well!
DeleteThe only Angel books I've ever read are Piercing the Darkness & This Present Darkness. by Frank Peretti.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check those out--I haven't seen them before!
DeleteAh, bummer! Sorry the story inside didn't live up to this absolutely gorgeous cover :-(
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty cover, isn't it? Bummer indeed...
DeleteI'm not all that into angel stories, but this one sounds promising. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you check it out, I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteI did read the series, and I only liked the first book, but I REALLY liked it, and this is why: it was peaceful. Yes, you read right. While the protagonist is not the brightest tool, she is so innocent and that innocence shines through the page and made me smile. I really don't much care for angel books that harbor so much darkness. I mean, angels are supposed to be creatures of light, right? Bright. <--Okay, I couldn't resist. I should go write some silly children's poetry. =)
ReplyDeleteI completely hear ya there--I did like that aspect of it. I guess I just imagine them as a little wiser? I don't know. Just not my cup of tea, I guess! :)
DeleteThis cover is gorgeous! The first time I saw this cover, I wanted a halo. That's how much I fell inlove with it..lol. I haven't read the book though, I really need to catch up with my reading. I think I have this in my kindle and I've had it for a while *shame on me** lol. Thanks for sharing, Mer! :)
ReplyDeletelol, I have SO many books like that on my kindle. It's out of control! :)
DeleteI'm not a big fan of angel stories, though I have been curious about this book because it's been around for a while and I think the author was only 18 when this first one was released.
ReplyDeleteShe was super young! Which is awesome. (And kinda showed in places...which I hate to say, but is the truth--there's a kind of relationship maturity that comes with an older perspective that can be healthy...)
DeleteI was hooked to one Angel TV programm way back and this series sound like something I'd like to read. Thanks for posting about it.
ReplyDeleteNas
Shall I guess? Touched by an Angel? I used to love that one :) Well, when it wasn't too sappy, lol!
DeleteI have not read any of the books in this series. I do think the cover is very cool. Sorry it wasn't your cup of tear, but that happens. :)
ReplyDeleteof tea, not tear. Lol. :)
ReplyDeletelol, I figured!! A cup of tear would be interesting though :)
DeleteI haven't heard of it, actually...
ReplyDeleteSomehow, that doesn't surprise me a whole lot ;)
DeleteIt's always a bummer when books don't live up to one's hopes. I just put an ARC down for this same reason. Eh. Life's too full of fabulous books to read ones you're not into. (It took me a long time to become a non-completer - it's a great freedom)
ReplyDeleteI tell myself it's okay to stop, but it still isn't something I'm very good at! Someday! :)
